A Key component in the Prevention

of "Regretted Turnover"

All companies experience some level of “Regretted Turnover.” That is, the departure of employees that the company wanted to retain. The Exit Interview

One of the major tools in combating regretted turnover is the Exit Interview. These specially-designed interviews are used to determine the reasons why valued employees elect to depart. While exit interviews can be extremely valuable, it is important to recognize that, unless properly managed, they can yield unreliable data.

Many departing employees are reluctant to provide the actual reasons for leaving. Some fear that by doing so, they will “burn their bridges.” Others fear their feedback will be labeled as “sour grapes” or that they will be viewed as Prima Donnas. Still others find the reasons too embarrassing to discuss. This is particularly true where some sort of harassment or workplace conduct has prompted the departure.

For these reasons, it’s important that exiting employees feel comfortable providing accurate feedback, without fear of retribution or embarrassment. The best way to create a non-threatening environment for exiting employees is to collect their feedback anonymously. and preferably through a disinterested third party.

The Exit Interviews Manager

Our EI Manager Software enables you to create a positive environment for the collection of feedback from departing employees. Use the EI Manager to:

  1. Select from our standard list of Exit Interview Questions, or compose your own.
  2. Select how you want exit interview feedback to be reported. Company-wide? By Division / Department? By Salary Levels or Bands? By Exempt / Non-Exempt Status? Or any combination of Sort Criteria.
  3. Quickly communicate to us the departing employees to be surveyed.
  4. We will contact the exiting employees, advise them of the steps taken to assure their anonymity, and invite them to provide feedback by telephone interview, paper questionnaire, or online feedback form.
  5. Feedback will be quickly recorded and sorted, per your instructions.
  6. Access your account at any time and review summary reports.
    • Sorry, but individual feedback can not be viewed, as that would violate our commitment to individuals to protect their confidentiality.
    • For a Summary Report to display, and least 3 individuals must have provided exit feedback.
  7. Identify trends in factors driving Regretted Turnover, such as Pay, Supervision, Type of Work, Opportunity for Advancement, Work Environment, etc.

With the EI Manager, you can identify and evaluate the causes of Regretted Turnover, take corrective action, and then monitor results over time to determine if your solutions are having the desired effect.

Your cost for the EI Manager is as little as $99 per month, and is based on the number of exiting employees you plan on including in the program each year. Of course, you are in complete control of the number of individuals participating. Include all exiting employees, or just a sample.
